Why you should consider regular eye examinations

A sight test is a health check. Here is what we look for, and how often you should come in.

Most people book an eye test when something feels wrong. The problem is that the conditions we most want to catch are the ones that feel like nothing at all until damage is already done.

How often is right for you

  • Every two years for most adults with no risk factors
  • Every year if you are over 70, under 16, diabetic, or have a family history of glaucoma
  • Sooner if you notice any sudden change in vision

The eye as a window

The eye is the only place in the body where blood vessels and nerve tissue can be viewed directly, without surgery. That makes a sight test a genuine general health check: high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol all leave visible signs on the retina, and we are sometimes the first to spot them.

What to bring

Your current glasses, a list of any medication you take, and your prescription if you have it. If you drive, we can advise on whether you meet the visual standard.

Book your eye test. It takes about half an hour.
